Excellence in Organic Extension Webinar Series

Are you looking for fresh ideas to help you improve your communication skills so that you can effectively convey information to growers in fun, modern, and appropriate ways? This 4-session webinar series will provide training to enable graduate students and others hoping to work directly with farmers in their jobs, an opportunity to learn what works, and what doesn’t, from national experts in organic agriculture extension. The series was organized by Dr. Julie Grossman, Alan Meijer, and Thanwalee (JiJY) Sooksa-nguan of North Carolina State University, and eOrganic hosted the webinars.

Excellence in Organic Extension Webinar Series

October 7, 2013 Watch Be my friend: Utilizing social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest to engage and interact with your audience Debbie Roos, North Carolina State Extension, Chatham County; Debra Heleba, University of Vermont Extension

With few opportunities for gaining Extension experience during their college careers, new Extension personnel may feel ill prepared to deliver information to audiences outside of the realm of academia. Since many occupations that await M.S. or Ph.D. level agriculture students involve working with, delivering information to, and assisting farmers, advanced training in Extension-related activities will allow them to be more effective as well as more competitive in the job market.

By the end of the webinar series, participants will be able to:

  • Develop an effective presentation appropriate for farmer audiences
  • Define necessary steps to organizing engaging, interesting and informative field days
  • Describe state-of-the art approaches to utilizing social media such as Youtube and Facebook to engage and reach a target farmer audience.
  • Be able to develop an evaluation plan that solicits useful feedback and follow-up from growers.
